At Matrix Environmental, safety is always our number one priority. It is the main focus from day one of any demolition project through the completion of the job. We value the safety of our workers and anyone who comes in contact with the site before, during and after the demolition and abatement procedures are completed. Unsafe working conditions are never tolerated at Matrix Environmental and our track record of safety speaks for itself.
Safety Oversight & Training
It all starts with our Safety Manager, a full-time manager whose main responsibility is to oversee safety training. Every Matrix supervisor is required to be OSHA 30 certified and all field employees must have their OSHA 10 certifications. An office safety training program is completed by each employee when they are hired and additional mandatory quarterly safety training. Some of the topics that trainees learn about include:
- Asbestos
- Lead
- Scaffold
- Ladder Safety
- HAZWOPER
- Forklift Training
- Fall Protection
- Equipment Specific Training
- Heat Awareness
- Confined Space Entry
- Lock-out/Tag-out
Site-Specific Safety
During a demolition and hazardous materials abatement procedure, Matrix requires mandatory safety planning before any site work is started. This includes standard work plans and SSSPs, along with specific job hazard analysis, daily pre-task planning and structural engineering review for demolition plans (when applicable).
The Safety Manager visits each work site at least once a week for a full safety inspection. There are no details overlooked to ensure the safest possible working conditions. In addition, Matrix has created a weekly tailgate training system to cover standardized topics and worksite-specific issues. These weekly tailgate meetings exceed OSHA standards.
HAZMAT Abatement
A major part of demolition is dealing with the potential for hazardous materials such as lead and asbestos. Prior to any demolition, the site is fully inspected and if any hazardous materials are detected—even the most trace amounts—HAZMAT abatement protocols will be enacted to ensure safe removal and disposal of these materials throughout the demolition process.
From our initial site meetings to our work plans, to our closeout documentation, Matrix Environmental strives to provide a safe working, living and learning environment for all we come in contact with. If you have any questions about our demolition process, HAZMAT abatement services, or our safety procedures, contact us today.
