In 2017, Matrix Environmental was hired to complete a major site demolition project that would allow for redevelopment of a commercial property. The original site was a decommissioned concrete plant. All of the structures had to be removed and properly demolished in order to allow for future excavation and construction of new structures on the property.
Unique Challenges
The biggest challenge faced during this demolition project was the concrete from this old plant. The Matrix team encountered some areas on the site where the concrete was packed solid as much as 30 feet deep. It all had to be dug out methodically and removed from the property before any new construction work could be started. Ultimately, Matrix Environmental was able to safely and effectively demolish all the original structures and remove all the concrete that had built up over the years.
Safety and Hazmat Abatement
Throughout any demolition process, safety is always a top priority for Matrix Environmental. This includes making sure no hazardous material such as lead or asbestos is released into the soil or air. Oftentimes, these old structures will use dangerous substances in construction. With each phase of demolition, everything is carefully inspected and tested to identify and potentially hazardous materials. If anything is detected, then Matrix can provide expert hazmat abatement services to safely remove and dispose of any materials that might be dangerous.
Job Well Done
In this project, the demolition of the decommissioned concrete plant went smoothly. Once all the old concrete was removed, we were able to begin excavation and start laying the foundations for their new construction development on this site.
